Volcanoes and Quality Wines
Tenuta Ronci extends for about 30 hectares on the gentle hills of the homonymous Ronci Valley, a uncontaminated micro-zone in the extreme south of Tuscia Viterbese, on the outskirts of Rome. The vines are planted on tuffaceous soils of volcanic origin, rich in microelements that significantly contribute to ensuring the wines complexity and a great balance of flavours.
The agricultural and winemaking project, which took shape here in the eighties, was strongly inspired by the knowledge and passion of Arturo Improta, the owner, for French Wines and in particular for Burgundy and Bordeaux. Hence the choice, totally endorsed by Professor Luigi Moio (one of the most respected names in Italian winemaking) to plant vines such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. All this coincided with the historical moment in which viticulture in Lazio began to experience its “Renaissance” and the region became an open-air laboratory where planting the so-called International Varieties was being widely and succesfully experimented.
From a small winery to a modern project
With us, at Tenuta Ronci, sustainability in the vineyards is guaranteed, first and foremost , by the location within a protected natural park which also means enjoying a great biodiversity. Here, a choice was made of “sustainability at planting”. Choosing the right vines for this area and the right rootstocks allows the vines to develop in a healthy way and with the minimum possible interventions.
At Tenuta Ronci, the passionate but at the same time entrepreneurial approach, the determination to make “quality wines without compromises” (because they are made first and foremost for ourselves), the lack of “production anxiety from the market” helped the dream of this agricultural project come true.
As we look ahead we continue to focus on Chardonnay (a new vineyard will be in full production in a couple of years), Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. We have also planted a native variety that in this area expresses itself at the highest levels, Grechetto. Through all these years the evolution of Tenuta Ronci has been constant: from a small experimental winery to a modern agricultural and wine making project, equipped with the most advanced technologies, chosen to preserve the characteristics of the grapes and produce wines of the highest quality.
